The Armenian delegation walked out of the sitting hall today after an incident at the Georgian Parliament, Aliq Media reports.
Georgian opposition MPs from the Georgian Dream faction interrupted the 26th Inter-Parliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) after a Russian MP and president of the assembly, Sergey Gavrilov addressed the audience from the Georgian parliamentary speaker’s chair earlier today.
Gavrilov was at the Georgian Parliament today to chair the 26th sitting of the Inter-Parliamentary Assembly of orthodox countries.
The opposition called on the public to come to the Georgian parliament building at 7 p.m. today to protest the presence of Russian MPs in Georgia and “protect the dignity” of the country, as the current Georgian government “fails to do so.”
“The whole Armenian delegation walked out of the hall because the conflict was between our ally on one hand and a brotherly nation on the other hand. We were between two fires and decided to stay away of the incident,” head of the Armenian delegation Alen Simonyan said.
Ambassador of Ukraine to Georgia Ihor Dolhov temporarily left the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy in protest when Gavrilov addressed the audience earlier yesterday at the former Avlabari Presidential palace.
